“I will thank Yahweh with all my heart; I will declare all Your wonderful works.”
Psalm 9:1
Sometimes, do we often glance over this verse without giving any second thought to what it truly means?
I think we do.
As I sat outside this morning, taking in the balmy air and rain-soaked grass from the storm the night before, I paused when reading this verse, especially at the words, “I will declare all Your wonderful works.”
How often do I truly declare God’s wonderful works in my life? Not only declare it to myself, but to all others around me.
I really don’t. Especially lately, when I have been walking through another bout of spiritual apathy.
But if there’s anything I’ve learned in the past, it’s that gratitude often times is the most powerful spark to ignite and renew our spiritual fires.
So in that moment, I challenged myself to declare four wonderful works of God in my life, even if I just simply wrote it down in my journal. I just needed to acknowledge something, anything in my life that God has graciously blessed me with.
Here are my four things:
- my body and mind which He made
- beautiful sunrises and glorious sunsets
- the loving close-knit dynamic of my family on both sides
- birds flocking together in the sky above
These things are simple, pure, beautiful. Yet ironically, they are the things we take most for granted.
Today, I challenge you to acknowledge four of God’s wonderful works in your own life. It may seem difficult or boring at first, but you will find that once you start dwelling on everything God has done for you and how much you are grateful for it, it is difficult to stop listing things out!
